Becoming a Master Recycler

Fantastic program launched in Oregon Spring of 2008. 2012 classes start soon.

Excerpts from their website:

Master Recyclers are citizen volunteers who serve as solid waste ambassadors in Jackson County, working within their communities to reduce waste generation, to cultivate public awareness and to support projects of Jackson County Recycling Partnership, Jackson County SMARTWorks.

Each Spring, a 11-week training course teaches 35-40 Jackson County residents, business and government representatives on topics of recycling, waste prevention, composting, and the local solid waste infrastructure. The course includes an extensive training manual, discussion based classes, and presentations from local and regional experts. Field trips include visits to Dry Creek landfill, composting facilities, a waste-to-energy plant and the Medford wastewater treatment plant.
